Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital is located in the Oshikoto Region in Northwestern Namibia. Onandjowke is located approximately 750 km from Windhoek, the Capital of Namibia and 60 km from the Angolan border. The nearest major town to Onandjokwe is Ondangwa with a population of 6000. Onandjokwe was started in 1908 and was built by Lutheran Missionaries from Finland. It is still being run by the Lutheran Church of Namibia via Lutheran Medical Services and is also subsidized by the Government of the Republic of Namibia. Onandjokwe serves as the primary health care centre for the Onandjokwe District of the Oshikoto Region. Onandjokwe District has a size of approximately 25 000 kmē. According to census data from the most recent census in 2001, the current population of the catchment area is 147 179 with an annual growth rate of 2.2%. Onandjokwe is staffed by 240 nurses, both full time and nursing students, as well as by 22 doctors. For accommodating these patients, Onandjokwe has 470 beds.
